For over a decade, the conflict in Borno State has left a devastating impact on children, women, and youth, exposing them to violence, displacement, and limited access to essential services. The scars of war have disrupted education, livelihoods, and protection systems, leaving thousands vulnerable. While humanitarian efforts have provided relief, the need for long-term, community-driven solutions has never been more urgent.
To address these pressing challenges, the Center for Advocacy, Transparency and Accountability Initiative (CATAI), alongside our esteemed partners, has launched the PACT-LAB project; Protecting Children, Women, and Youth Affected by Conflict through Local Actors in Borno State. Funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), this initiative is designed to strengthen child protection systems, enhance education and economic opportunities, and empower local communities to build resilience.

The PACT-LAB project is a collaborative effort led by CATAI in partnership with Life at Best Development Initiative (LABDI), Rise to Inspire Africa (RIA), and Youth Integrated for Positive Development Initiative (YIPDI), with technical support from Terre des Hommes (Tdh).

Over the next 30 months, the project will focus on three of the most conflict-affected local government areas Bama, Gwoza, and Monguno, ensuring that children, women, and youth receive the support they need to rebuild their lives.

Investing in Lasting Impact

This project is not just about providing immediate relief—it is about investing in sustainable solutions that empower communities to take ownership of their protection and development. By equipping local actors with the knowledge and tools needed to respond effectively, we are fostering resilience and ensuring that vulnerable groups are no longer left behind.

The initiative aligns with the 2025 Humanitarian Response Plan, ensuring coordinated efforts with relevant ministries, departments, and agencies to bridge gaps in humanitarian aid and development. Additionally, with direct support to over 20,000 individuals, including children living with disabilities, caregivers, and survivors of violence, we are making a commitment to long-term transformation.

A Commitment to the People of Borno

During the launch of the PACT-LAB project, Abubakar Sadiq Muazu, Executive Director of CATAI, reaffirmed our unwavering dedication to this cause:

“On behalf of the consortium and the community members of Bama, Gwoza, and Monguno, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) for their generous funding and unwavering commitment to peace, empowerment, resilience, and human development.

This project represents a shared commitment—a promise to the people of Borno that they are not forgotten, that their voices matter, and that we stand with them in solidarity. It is a reminder that progress is possible when we work together, harnessing the power of partnerships and the resilience of communities.”
